  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

You may click on the image to the right to obtain your own copy of BootAble. Then use the knowledge and experience documented here to boot your computer(s) into FreeDOS. And please do not hesitate to ask questions – nowhere else can better answers be found.

Vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fruits and berries are good for your health. Dairy, eggs, meat and processed foods are bad for you. The usual western diet with dairy and meat consumption is about as unhealthy as cigarette smoking. Over decades, it leads to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Switching to a WFPBD can reverse much of that damage.

This is not some new fad diet. It’s what everyone used to eat. The research and publications go back at least to the 1970s. Variations of the WFPBD are promoted by several serious researchers and doctors:

Dr. Michael Greger nutritionfacts.org (non profit)

He coined the name “Whole Foods Plant-Based Diet”.

I have been on the diet for 15 years and within a couple of months I felt DECADES younger. Still going great at 75

That's fabulous! I have been on it for 2 years now, at the recommendation of my own doctor. Let us know if you have any tips.

I am happy that you have found a way of eating that works for you. I just wanted to point out that there is no universal agreement on the best eating plan for everyone, and that Michael Greger in particular has been accused of cherry picking the references that support his views. I tried the Ornish/McDougal plans for several years, with terrible results, and have since been much happier following a keto plan.

I think you just have to try different things until you find what works for you, which may not be what works for anyone else you know. Nutrition is hard to study, with randomized controlled studies very expensive or impossible, and epidemiology proven to be unreliable.

Sometimes Dr. Greger kind of shoots down his own references -- pointing out their inadequacies, but he does consistently provide references!

I had a bad experience with low-carb diets. I ended up with kidney stones and AFIB. On WFPBD, my blood test results are all much better, and I lost 20 pounds while eating my fill. I feel much better. The keto diets are obviously very popular, but I have serious doubts about how that's going to work out long-term.
