  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

You may click on the image to the right to obtain your own copy of BootAble. Then use the knowledge and experience documented here to boot your computer(s) into FreeDOS. And please do not hesitate to ask questions – nowhere else can better answers be found.

Has anyone been able to order Token 2 security key products for delivery in the US without paying $50 in express shipping? Their product line looks great, pricing is amazing, but much less attractive if you're ordering a small quantity of products and have to add $50 in shipping costs. In their shopping cart postal mail delivery is only offered for some countries (as a test I selected various countries in their shopping cart delivery country drop-down list and noticed the postal option comes and goes depending on which country you select). I contacted the vendor (of course) and they indicated postal shipping "should" be an option for US customers (why wouldn't it be?). I'm posting this question here because once in a blue moon I encounter a shopping cart where one or more options don't work correctly for whatever reason, maybe my browser security settings, so I'm curious if others have ordered from this vendor after hearing about them on the show.

Unfortunately, they're not selling on Ebay or Amazon and seem to have very little independent distribution.

Thanks

Ordered successfully this morning with postal shipping. The solution was to break up my order into 2 separate orders, then the postal shipping option appears. I did not order a huge quantity (4 keys and 1 reader) but apparently both total size of items and according to Token 2 support the number of lithium batteries affect whether or not the postal shipping option is offered in the shopping cart.
