Hey everyone, I got 3 x 12TB WD Reds (WD120EFBX - 7200RPM, 6GB/s, 512MB cache) for a new synology nas, and figured I'd do a quick check on spinrite to make sure they're not DOA.
They took about 21-23 hours each to finish at level 1, I didn't go to any deeper levels because the estimate was so long and I wanted to get started with my NAS.
But I just saw a post saying that level 2 should take about 4 hours to scan on an 8TB drive (https://forums.grc.com/threads/spinrite-on-synology-drives.1378/).
Why could my scans be taking so long? I'm using a fairly old computer, but I don't think disk access speed is an issue, since I can download at about 80MB/s over FTP, on a different drive that has half the reported read speed as the WD.
Could it be the drives? Or is it spinrite? I recall spinrite taking a fairly long time on the drive I'm using for FTP as well, when I ran it some years ago.
If y'all need the other drive & computer specs, I can get them for you later today or early tomorrow.
Thanks,
Dan.
