    Although this release is cosmetic, appearance matters and affects ease of use. The biggest change, as seen in the image above, is that the DNS Benchmark now has a traditional Windows application menu to more fully expose its many features. This release is also "Consultant License Aware" and GRC will now issue a Consultant version when owners have previously purchased four "Personal Use" licenses. If you have previously purchased four DNSB licenses, or if you wish to upgrade your "Personal Use" license to Consultant, GRC's purchase process will direct you through that process.

  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

    To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

    GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

    The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

Hi,
I was wondering if someone has an MSDN subscription that I could download the Server 2022 Standard ISO?
I installed it for a small company years ago and now have to repair the OS due to failing updates, I am going to do an in-place-reppair to keep the files.
I used the eval ISO and then licensed it via the Standard Key.
We were granted subscriptions when I worked with Dell a couple of decades ago so though someone on here would have a subscription?
I purchased Spinrite 6 many years ago and had to re-register. Thank you.

They have the license, presumably.

They don't have the reinstallation media.

It's Microsoft's ball, play bey their 'rules'.

To grab the Windows Server 2022 Standard evaluation ISO, you don't actually need to link a real personal profile—and you can even bypass the Microsoft account requirement entirely using a direct download link or a quick dummy signup.
Create a Throwaway Microsoft Account
  1. Open an Incognito/Private browser window and go to signup.live.com.
  2. Select Get a new email address to generate a temporary @outlook.com address so you don't have to link an existing account.
  3. Set a password and enter placeholder values for name and birthdate.
  4. Complete the CAPTCHA verification to finalize the inbox.
Download the Windows Server 2022 ISO (Standard Edition)
You can obtain the official 180-day Evaluation ISO—which includes both Standard and Datacenter editions (Server Core or Desktop Experience)—using either of these methods:
Method 1: Via the Microsoft Evaluation Center
  1. Go to the Microsoft Evaluation Center.
  2. Select Download the ISO under the download options and click Continue.
  3. Fill out the required registration fields using placeholder details or your throwaway email. (The form does not verify corporate domain validity).
  4. Select your preferred language (e.g., English 64-bit) and click Download.
Method 2: Direct Download via PowerShell (Bypasses Login & Forms)
If you want to skip web forms and account logins completely, pull the official, untouched ISO directly from Microsoft's static storage server using PowerShell:

Note: During OS setup from the ISO, select Windows Server 2022 Standard (Desktop Experience) if you want the full graphical user interface, or standard Windows Server 2022 Standard for the headless Server Core installation.

we are doing a repair of the OS - when you run through the process the ISO has to match the Os version. If you have ever upgraded Windows from 10 to 11 - you have to change the UK language to US and match the OS version, otherwise you cannot select the option to keep files. This is the same for a repair of Server 2022. Thank you for the details Peter but the evaluation ISO will not work as it needs to be the Standard ISO. Although Standard is included in the Eval it will not work for the repair to keep files. The option to keep files is grayed out.
 
At some point i ntime I realize that I could have built a replacement
computer from scratch, fully installed, and set up to match the failing
original.

I think that's is Microsoft's excuse for not caring about fixing broken
computers - just build a new one and copy over settings and files.

Ancient history: I copied all 62 diskettes of Microsoft Windows 3.11 to
a directory and reinstalled Windows 3.11 from there almost monthly
to 'fix' wonky misbehavior, and it kept all installed programs and files.

Later, we used to copy the install CD to C:\i386 in the hopes of at
least having drivers to search for if not an entire fix reinstall.

I copy ANY installation media to an \Install directory, and install from
there, never from external media, that way I can reinstall on demand.

I presume there's no copy of the original installation media on the
drive or in any filing cabinet or drwawer or box someplace?

Does anyone have an IN PLACE solution today that works for them
other than the default hidden partition at the end of the drive ( that
Microsoft tries to apply updates to disastrous results )?

How do we fix broken Windows?

USB boot ChkDsk, SFC, and DISM .. and ... ?

Slap in a new drive, attach the old one as D:, do a fresh install on C:,
and just move on, and keep copying over settings and files as
needed?

Ithought that the "Keep files" option was only available if you started Setup.exe from within Windows. If you run it from a boot CD, it is greyed out.

I was poking around in Easy2Boot trying to get the feel of it and one of the sections is "Download Windows ISOs". I thought of this thread.

Edit: There's a lot of Server 2022 builds as well as other versions of Windows.
