  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

You may click on the image to the right to obtain your own copy of BootAble. Then use the knowledge and experience documented here to boot your computer(s) into FreeDOS. And please do not hesitate to ask questions – nowhere else can better answers be found.

Does anyone know of a password manager that could run on an Android phone that would force enter the password if it knows the password. For example, if I have Amazon Music, the WalMart app, and my banking app, if the background service knows the username and password, would it just enter it and login without even asking? Can bitwarden or anything do that? I use long email aliases like chad_amazon2023_vjgt@fastmail.com and then long passwords for each sites and that makes using the Android apps for websites very difficult to use. I would want to just logmein without even asking on my phone. I guess what I wonder is if the Android OS has API support for entering usernames and passwords automatically, that would make a lot of sense on a mobile platform. Thanks.

Android does support this. I use Bitwarden, and when I tap on a username/password field (sometimes I don't need to tap on it. I think it depends on if the app autofocus on the field for me to trigger this) a box appears from Bitwarden asking if I want to autofill the field. Once I tap it, Bitwarden opens and asks which account I want to use (Normally it's only what is associated with the app, but some apps were so poorly written I'll also get the logins for sites that you normally would see the "Sign in with _" accounts as well), and the field will be filled in for me.

Ya well the last time I tried this my bit warden password was too long and hate that little keyboard, do you happen to know of anything like rdp for Android? I was trying to get logged into my it with team viewer yesterday but it was slow and I had to keep clicking trust device in my email.

Concerning auto login on a mobile device.....I wouldn't. Firefox will present the UID and PWD availability to you but you have to have use one of the security features such as pattern swipe, facial, or fingerprint before the UID/PWD are put into the blocks. Now, FF will not tell you that you have to have the supplemental security above active and will just fail to help you out in any way until you have one of those three activated. Took me awhile to figure that out in the beginning and resented the fact that it forced you to be more secure but I've since forgiven them.

Now, about password length.....there is no indication how long it can be until you look at the code for that site. Sometimes I use the examine page code function ( on a PC, tho) and look for MAXLEN or similar that tells you how long the PWD can be. Otherwise you can just throw a 128 alpha/numeric/special character password at it and it will truncate to the longest it supports. And this is also a plug for GRC's PWD generator. Quick and easy. I use a PWD manager but also maintain a spreadsheet that has all the info as well including all the other stuff such as recovery codes, secret questions, last good password, etc. I don't see any PWD managers that track all that data.
