Just a heads up for people interested in security to try NextDNS. Its Pi Hole in the cloud. The service is free up to a point and offers 3 advantages:
1. DNS calls are encrypted using either DoH or DoT whatever is supported by the software you are using
2. No ads
3. No tracking
It can optionally log DNS too which comes in handy for auditing purposes. You can write your own blog about what your phone/computer is doing at night while you are sleeping. Like I did
Any DNS service that does blocking will make mistakes. NextDNS offers both white lists and blacklists to fix those mistakes. For the techies amongst us, I suggest you get friends and family using a Chromebook configured with NextDNS. ChromeOS version 87, released earlier this month, just added NextDNS as a Secure DNS option.
On a related note, I have a list of assorted live DNS "testers" that can be used to verify the DNS servers currently in use.
Be aware that different browsers on the same system can be using different DNS servers.
My only relationship with NextDNS is that of a customer.
