I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 that is dying. I removed it from a friend's computer over 10 years ago and wrote DEAD on it in Sharpie. It's not a drive I care about at all, but I figured I may as well try ReadSpeed on it.

ReadSpeed starts like normal, but the progress bar at the top immediately freezes, and several seconds later returns FAILURE. It repeats this for each Location. Next, I tried SpinRite 6.0 on level 4, and it worked without issue (until it got stuck on some bad sectors). I tried ReadSpeed again, but it still just returns FAILURE.

Here's the ReadSpeed result. I attached a log with /VERBOSE at the bottom.
Code:

I had to cut out some sections due to the character limit, so I attached the full output below.

@Dagannoth : Thanks for your report. It'll be interesting to see what SpinRite v6.1 does with this drive. I'm not too surprised that ReadSpeed choked. During our testing we ran across a few such drives. I allowed ReadSpeed to move 1Gig down to another area. But after a few of those, I just bail. :(
