LastPass finally encrypts URLs in vaults

  • DNS Benchmark v2 is Finished and Available!
    Guest:
That's right. It took an entire year, but the result far more accurate and feature laden than we originally planned. The world now has a universal, multi-protocol, super-accurate, DNS resolver performance-measuring tool. This major second version is not free. But the deal is, purchase it once for $9.95 and you own it — and it's entire future — without ever being asked to pay anything more. For an overview list of features and more, please see The DNS Benchmark page at GRC. If you decide to make it your own, thanks in advance. It's a piece of work I'm proud to offer for sale. And if you should have any questions, many of the people who have been using and testing it throughout the past year often hang out here.
    /Steve.

  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

You may click on the image to the right to obtain your own copy of BootAble. Then use the knowledge and experience documented here to boot your computer(s) into FreeDOS. And please do not hesitate to ask questions – nowhere else can better answers be found.

I haven't been in a position to remove the LastPass extension from my browser yet (For sites I'm too lazy to change the password for because of the leak. All sites that actively ask for passwords only exist in Bitwarden at this point, the others, I haven't visited since the breaches), today I happened to notice the icon did the color change thing when there's an alert it wants you to know about. Normally when I see it, it would be a network hiccup not allowing it to sync or something that I just basically ignored over the years (now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I have seen it since the before pandemic...), but today, it was news they finally encrypt URLs in the vault!

If you happen to have LastPass still around, but don't normally log into it unless it's needed, now would be a good time to do so.

I really should find time to change the passwords I have, so I can just remove all traces of it from my browsers, aside from work.

Idea: if the remaining accounts you have to eventually migrate out of LastPass or just change the password have the capability to change the user/account name, you may want to consider doing that too.

I migrated all at once by simply exporting everything from LastPass and then importing it all into Bitwarden... with no drama what-so-ever.

The company I work for uses Keepass. They don't approve of password managers in the cloud. I've installed keepassxc on my FreeBSD laptop while my wife now uses Keepass on Windows. It's simple and it's secure. Just make sure you have a good backup should you need it.

I suppose if a person uses multiple browsers on multiple devices, this could limit one's mobility.

Talking about backups, check this out.

I actually did that already. The sites still in my LP vault are ones I just want to change the password on. But for whatever reason, I just didn't have a reason to go to those sites since I made the move.
