  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

You may click on the image to the right to obtain your own copy of BootAble. Then use the knowledge and experience documented here to boot your computer(s) into FreeDOS. And please do not hesitate to ask questions – nowhere else can better answers be found.

There is a lot of hoopla about recent UK regulatory attack on encryption. However, is this request obsolete as we have placed unacceptable (in my opinion) trust in Apple in particular and in others... ? The reason is mix of proprietary code, ability of devices to communicate with the MothershipApple without any user oversight and even existence of completely Apple centric mesh network. All of that with powerful AI client side scanning of EVERYTHING Apple wants to scan. On any secret Gvt request Apple can, covertly and undetectably search for any content on any given or all or any subset of devices. Even on devices we turned off as that have lost all the meaning too. Pre encryption data is there for the harvest and Apple have installed all the tools needed for it to be done without our knowledge and control. The only protection is users trust that they won't do it... Nothing more, they can if they want bypass any encryption at source and en-mass or in a targeted way... No need to bother with encryption issues.

Yes, and apparently some phones/pagers can be targeted to explode. /sarcasm Maybe calm down on the paranoia a little and assume that being specifically targeted is still specifically more expensive, and is not a general warrant-less tap of EVERYONE (in the world) which is apparently what the UK government was supposedly targeting.
