Firefox 156.0 issues??

  • DNS Benchmark v2 Release 5 with Consultant License
    Guest:
If you own any earlier release of our DNS Benchmark you may immediately download its release #5 replacement. Running an earlier release will detect the new release and help you upgrade.

Although this release is cosmetic, appearance matters and affects ease of use. The biggest change, as seen in the image above, is that the DNS Benchmark now has a traditional Windows application menu to more fully expose its many features. This release is also "Consultant License Aware" and GRC will now issue a Consultant version when owners have previously purchased four "Personal Use" licenses. If you have previously purchased four DNSB licenses, or if you wish to upgrade your "Personal Use" license to Consultant, GRC's purchase process will direct you through that process.

  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

You may click on the image to the right to obtain your own copy of BootAble. Then use the knowledge and experience documented here to boot your computer(s) into FreeDOS. And please do not hesitate to ask questions – nowhere else can better answers be found.

Has anyone noticed that Firefox is spinning its wheels on a lot of website since the latest update this week? I'm on version 156.0 on a mac, and websites I visit regularly are either not loading at all, or taking 10 -15 seconds to either load or partially load. I've made no other system changes, just let FF update itself.
Cheers,
Russell.

When I first read your message, I hadn't updated yet. Now, after almost a day, I haven't noticed anything odd on my end. Is it possible you're running any extensions that could be an issue in the new version?

Same here, my update had not applied yet. So I reloaded, tried a few sites, and they seem normal to me. Bank of America has these white page transitions now, but I saw those in 155 too, so I think they made the change, not Firefox.

Running with UBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, Bitwarden and Facebook Container extensions. There is another but doesn't activate on sites unless directly told to, and none of my test sites (this one, Reddit, Amazon, Bank of America, Go Comics, Penny Arcade, Slashdot, iLounge Forums...I didn't see any differences. This is on Windows.

Checked similar sites on a Mac and found the same behavior.

Not at home on FreeBSD, not at $JOB on W11.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have noticed things improve over the past week but not much. in fact, just prior to logging in here on my M1 Mac, I had FF on my M3 Mac give me the "secure Connection Failed" page for this GRC Forums page! - Seems the issue is mine, and not something to do with FF or the internet.
Cheers,
Russell.

I find that as well, but with a lot of the releases, it struggles, and sometimes will be non responsive, and ending and restarting the browser will fix it for a long time. looks like it is a slow memory leak, which eventually does make pages slow, and hogs up either swap or main memory. Generally i also will eventually restsrt the machine, which also helps with all the kernel updates that sit waiting for the reboot to take effect.

Used to be with my first machine, running RH4.0, it was up till the power went out, which could be months, with no issues, but, despite the hardware being 100 times faster, memory being 24000 times bigger, and hard disk being 3000 000 times bigger, the programs just got larger and slower.

Firefox 157.0 came out today. They've gone all circular and curvy... pill shaped tabs and menus... Maybe the new look will somehow magically fix the issues you were having. For me it forced me into some weird diagnostic mode during the update, and nothing worked right, but after I got out of that, it seemed to work fine.
