Hi guys, I think I read somewhere that external USB drives are basically a no-go especially with SR6.0
I have a Windows PC, and it's a laptop. I am running SR6.0 in VirtualBox and have SR6.0 working just fine on VB. The USB controller with the external drive is attached to the VM just as well, but SR6.0 won't see the drive. Am I correct in assuming, from what I read, that I will need a work station with an available IDE controller to directly connect the drive to the main board?
Not a super tech savvy user here but the Mac drive is from 2010 and has a lot of personal photos that I am trying to recover. MiniTool Recovery just sees a bunch of bad sectors and has a lot of read errors but MiniTool can't recover anything off the drive. Windows won't allow me to do anything with it, and I don't have another Mac to run recovery with. I'm just looking for the best way to try to recover the data.
Thanks in advance
Edit: forgot to mention that the reason I'm running 6.0 is because the laptop I am trying to recover is an old 32-bit system and I read somewhere that the 6.0 version works better for older systems. I also read "When running in VirtualBox, VB's BIOS will be able to reliably access all of a USB drives capacity." So I was assuming running SR6.0 on VB might be worth a shot.
Second edit: USB adapter is a simple USB to SATA cable that usually works well for data recovery. I'm thinking a USB-C to eSATA and connect the drive to an eSATA bay might work better? (I have an eSATA dock for 2.5" drives) - haven't tested this yet because I don't have a USB-C to eSATA adapter right now (cable I currently have is eSATA to eSATA).
I'm asking because I don't have a full PC to put this drive in, only laptops or mini PC's. No work stations.
