Dear Guest Visitor → Once you register and log-in:

This forum does not automatically send notices of new content. So if, for example, you would like to be notified by mail when Steve posts an update to his blog (or of any other specific activity anywhere else), you need to tell the system what to “Watch” for you. Please checkout the “Tips & Tricks” page for details about that... and other tips!

    /Steve.

Howdy,

I was browsing through the "Settings" and noticed there is no option for deleting GRC Forum accounts. This seems odd, what would someone need to do if they wanted to delete their account?

Define deleting your account? If you want the access removed, there are a number of moderators who could do that. If you used SQRL to create your account, it has options to lock your access (this is disablement, not deletion.)

If you want all signs of your existence purged, then that is something only Steve can do, and you would have to make a request to him and wait until he next visits (could be lengthy.)

I, for one, would like to delete my account and have all my content removed.

It's in response to having a comment of mine "Cancelled" here.

I, for one, am sorry to hear that. You have been here for 4 months and have contributed 60 messages. Both your presence and your contributions are appreciated. Perhaps one of your comments was or was part of a thread that ceased to be constructive or was perceived to be headed that way. While this request seems like a somewhat extreme reaction, I am not you and did not experience what you did. If that is truly your wish, the loss may well be ours, but I'm sure someone would be able to accommodate you.

I personally am not one to mince words in this regard. If you ask for it to be, it will be done. Unfortunately, you may not like the way it gets done, because all the moderators can do is end your ability to log in. That can, and will be done immediately. Moderators do not have the ability to anonymize the account, so your old messages will sit there until Steve gets around to taking action. If this is acceptable to you, and is what you really want, then simply send Dave or myself a message, and thy will be done.

There is no free speech here. Read the rules if you want to know them, they're at the bottom under "Terms and rules." I'll quote a bit:

You agree to not use the Service to submit or link to any Content which is defamatory, abusive, hateful, threatening, spam or spam-like, likely to offend, contains adult or objectionable content, contains personal information of others, risks copyright infringement, encourages unlawful activity, or otherwise violates any laws. You are entirely responsible for the content of, and any harm resulting from, that Content or your conduct.

We may remove or modify any Content submitted at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Requests for Content to be removed or modified will be undertaken only at our discretion. We may terminate your access to all or any part of the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice.

The particular content you are referring to, you KNEW was problematic, because of how you framed it. You should not have been surprised when we didn't allow you engage with others that way, especially on a topic that is far outside of the reason why these forums exist.
