  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

    To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

    GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

    The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

ValiDrive ask me for admin priveleges. But i've run it as admin.
Any ideas?

You're in unsupported territory. ValiDrive is a Windows x86 utility. The fact that you can get it to do *anything* on ARM is just luck.

I know that ValiDrive is a x86 Application. But MS confirm emulation for x86 apps on ARM platform

Maybe try setting the Run as administrator flag on the file properties before attempting to run It

Did you actually login as Administrator, or login with an account that has Admin rights? I gather that, in MS speak, they are not the same.

It's actually a simple fix. You need to change the emulation mode to run Validrive...works for Spinrite as well to make the USB drive:

1) Right-click on the validrive (or spinrite).exe file
2) Choose properties
3) Choose compatibility tab
4) Click change emulation settings
5) Choose Safe Emulation
6) Click Apply
7) Click OK

Now right click on the validrive.exe file and Run as Administrator. It will now work normally.
