  • BootAble – FreeDOS boot testing freeware

To obtain direct, low-level access to a system's mass storage drives, SpinRite runs under a GRC-customized version of FreeDOS which has been modified to add compatibility with all file systems. In order to run SpinRite it must first be possible to boot FreeDOS.

GRC's “BootAble” freeware allows anyone to easily create BIOS-bootable media in order to workout and confirm the details of getting a machine to boot FreeDOS through a BIOS. Once the means of doing that has been determined, the media created by SpinRite can be booted and run in the same way.

The participants here, who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experience, their successes and some frustrations with booting their computers into FreeDOS, have created a valuable knowledgebase which will benefit everyone who follows.

You may click on the image to the right to obtain your own copy of BootAble. Then use the knowledge and experience documented here to boot your computer(s) into FreeDOS. And please do not hesitate to ask questions – nowhere else can better answers be found.

My daily job forces me to commute almost daily 1~1.5 hours in each direction.
While English is not my native tongue I have been reading many sci-fi books in English and I still prefer to do it when I have the time (which I dont have ).

While I drive I listen to mostly technical podcasts , obviously security now is one of them, another thing I listen to are audio books on Audible which has to do something with computing like Cyber ( The Lazarus heist , Ghosts in the wire , The ransomware hunting team.... ) and computer history related (Your friendly orange glow , The Cuckoo's egg, Where wizards stay up late.......).

But recently I have discovered that audible also has tonnes of free of what is called "audio drama" (i dont think the name does right with it) , which is a voice acting but unlike an audio book it involves several people voice acting.
from what I have seen it is between a short story to a short book and there are many really good sci-fi stories there.
I have recently finished listening to a very nice one called Temporal , it involves time travel , Human colony on mars , AI , referring to as historical events like 1971 D.B Cooper jumping from an air plane, colliding timelines and many other goodies and it is all very nicely arranged into a very surprising end (or should I say ends).

I would really recommend anyone to give this a try there are lot's of very nice sci-fi stories there and the production qulity is very high.

I love the old radio dramas. I have a 30 CD collection of 60 of Ray Bradbury's favorites. I listen to them often when I'm on long car trips.
